Think different, listen to experience, make a decision and just ‘do’.
I came to Canada in 2016 for a very simple reason: to succeed.
For me, that means more than just a salary level or title, but creating a life that’s engaging, challenging and at the end of the day, fulfilling.
The drive to succeed is what fuels my work but most importantly it guides how I work. From the age of 13, I worked in my parents’ business, Dalton’s Bar, sorting bottles, cleaning glasses, and helping with stock deliveries. As I got older I worked behind the bar, serving our customers of 20-plus years, representing the good family name my parents had created. It wasn’t until years later that I realized exactly how these experiences shaped the ways in which I continue to conduct my professional career.
As a result, I treat every brand I work for, every budget I manage, and every campaign I launch as if it were my own business, my own venture, and my own namesake. It’s this mentality of ownership, accountability, and pride in my work that pushes me to achieve the successes I have experienced over the years.
Thankfully, ‘balance’ plays a big role in life here in BC, and it’s a key part of great work. When the laptop closes I can typically be found exploring powder in Whistler, enjoying a fresh craft beer right from the place it’s brewed, or competing in beach volleyball leagues.
One of the best things I’ve learned in my 8 years in Vancovuer is that being a “do-er” is much better than being a “wisher”.
